Bifocal Glasses

Recently, new findings show that as the increasing of age, the population of people having myopia also increases. In 1980s, 6 year old who have myopia are 4%, 18 year old are 80% in the same age children. But now, the rate of 6 year children got myopia is 10% and 18 year old is nearly 85%. Myopia is not problem in our country, but all around the world. Myopia can not only has a bad effect of kids’ vision health, but also affect their future occupation. So, how can we protect our eye? Some experts discovered that bifocal eyeglasses can slow down the space of kids’ myopia.

Researchers of Queensland University of Technology in Australia did a research among 135 teenagers whose ages are about ten year old. They were divided into three groups: 41 children wear single vision prescription eyeglasses; 48 children put on bifocal eyeglasses; 46 children had a special bifocal eyeglasses which have a prism in glasses. 131 teenagers of 135 had achieved this research for two years. And the result was that who wears single vision eyeglasses are the fastest one in going worse of myopia. Bifocal eyeglasses can delay their myopia a bit, while prismatic bifocal eyeglasses are about to slow down the speed obviously.

Because of the essential features would not change among different races, this discovering are also available to other countries. One researcher said:” The myopia of 54% of all the children who helped us during this research increased quickly” , he continued to tell:” until now, there is no any consensus of what clinical effect should be of delaying kids’ myopia. Our opinion was that the impact of bifocal eyeglasses treatment and prismatic bifocal eyeglasses were reached to 38% and 55% . Although these treatments could have more clear effect, its still a conservative statistic. The effect of this kind of therapy is going to determine the meaning of clinic. If bifocal eyeglasses can continually leave impact on kids, then it would be meaningful and functional of myopia. Accordingly persistent research is dispensable.”
